Advanced Philanthropy Info Guide: Ron Perelman - Performing Arts Center"The arts give us a better understanding of the world, and insight into other cultures, which is critical right now."
There is no shortage of institutions bearing the name of New York business tycoon and Giving Pledge signatory Ron Perelman. To name just a few: the Ronald O. Perelman Department for Emergency Medicine at NYU, the Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute at New York–Presbyterian Hospital, the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Business Innovation at Columbia University, and the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Economics and Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
Perelman has also long been involved with the Apollo Theater, and he’s well known for his work fighting breast cancer—in the '90s he founded the Revlon/UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program and was instrumental in launching the EIF Revlon Run/Walk, which has raised more than $100 million. "I learned about philanthropy from watching my father give back to his community," says Perelman, who also learned business skills at the knee of his manufacturing exec dad. "From an early age that was instilled in me."
